Tips for Online Electronics Shopping

on 11:22 AM

Purchasing electronics online can be a frightening process especially when you can't see the product, the seller, or the store manager face to face. So what's the safest way to purchase electronics online without getting scammed? It's easy with a few fail proof tips from Daily Steals.

First you need to make sure you understand the online retailers return and exchange policy. Some people think that just because they don't see it online it doesn't exist! However, that's not necessarily true. If you really want to do business with a retailer and don't see a return policy on their website simply call or email to ask. It's that simple.

The next tip is to make sure you familiarize yourself with the online retailer. At Daily Steals we have customer feedback in plain view on the first page of our site. This lets you see what others have to say about a product. If you are shopping online make sure you check out past customer comments, you may be surprised or horrified.

We've talked about this one previously at Daily Steals, make sure that you print out your receipts, just because it’s online does not mean it does not matter.

Another great tip is to check and make sure the online retailer you are purchasing from has a cancellation policy. If you are buying a big TV or computer, but Best Buy surprisingly has a sale on what you just ordered, you may want of cancel it ahead of time. Other reasons to check for a clear cancellation policy include back orders or shipping date disagreements.

Find out how your purchase will be delivered to you so that you can track your shipment and feel some sort of control in knowing where your package is. Also, make sure that you know how much they are charging for shipping and handling...sometimes these prices can be deal breakers.

As always be safe online and make sure you use your credit card or PayPal only and secure your privacy. For real electronic bargains at ridiculously low prices visit www.dailysteals.com. Every day, you’ll find a cool new item at a ridiculously low price. If you’re into the hottest electronics and accessories at the lowest prices, you don’t want to miss a day at Daily Steals!

Holiday Thieves Could Target You Online

on 3:00 AM

The National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA) was concerned about holiday online thefts that could occur while you are looking for the perfect bargain this holiday season. As a result, they gave a few tips to help keep you safe this holiday season.

It got us thinking, you wouldn't leave your home and start shopping without certain things so why shop on the internet without certain precautions in place...

You wouldn't leave home without you purse and your credit cards so don't shop online without being protected. The NCSA says to make sure you have a firewall, anti-virus, anti-spyware, and important updates before you start typing in those credit card numbers.

You wouldn't leave home and go shop in a dark alley with an unsafe looking character selling stolen goods, so don't shop from an online buyer your haven't check out. The NCSA suggest checking physical address and phone numbers just in case.

You wouldn't allow a holiday purse snatcher to snatch your purse and not scream for help from mall security that's standing six feet away, so why not take advantage of your computers security features? The NCSA suggest using your passwords and security features fully to ensure safety while shopping online.

You wouldn't leave your credit card on a checkout counter while you went to try one some clothes, so why not protect your personal information while online? The NCSA suggest checking the websites privacy policy before you make a purchase or give any information... just to make sure they can be trusted to use your personal info in the right way.

You wouldn't shop this holiday in a place without security, locks, personnel, safety procedures, or policeman so why shop online without checking for the necessary site security features? It's not just your responsibility to be safe; the website should have precautions in place also.

You wouldn't tell the salesperson to keep all your receipts after spending $500 in a store on Christmas toys for the kids, so why not keep a paper trail of your online purchases? Just as important as leaving a store with your receipt, the NCSA says that keeping up with your online receipts, terms of sales, or emails is essential for online shopping.

Lastly, you wouldn't leave the door to your house unlocked with presents under the tree, so why leave your computer connected to the internet after shopping online? The NCSA says that it’s a scammers dream to find a person connected to the internet after shopping. They can install malicious software and steal your information if you are not careful, so turn it off!

How Not To Overspend Online

on 2:30 PM

Online shoppers over spend at least 15% when shopping according to Forrester research. The convenience of point and click can be a detrimental to someone’s wallet and credit card if the proper precautions are not taken. Here are some ways to make sure that doesn't happen to you online1

Beware Of The Enticing Guarantee

Sometimes guarantees can catch us, we guarantee your money back or we guarantee you won't regret this purchase, or even we guarantee it so much we'll give you an additional one free. Don't always fall for the guarantee! Use online shopping reviews to see if other customers like what they bought.

Take Your Time
Don't rush to put it in your shopping cart, once it's in the shopping carts researchers say most likely it will stay there. Only put products in your shopping cart if you have researched it and are sure you want it. Speed sometimes equal empties wallets.

Avoid The Reward Trap
Coupons and rewards are great, especially if you were going to buy the product anyway. But what about that purchase you weren't even going to make but the 15% off coupon, credit card offer, or free gift got you buying it anyway. Focus your coupons and awards on things you were going to buy with or without the reward.

Don't Fall For The Free Shipping Trick
Free shipping is one of online consumer’s main reasons for purchasing. But it’s important to research and make sure the shipping isn't incorporated in the price already or that you don't decide to purchase something else because you won't be spending it on shipping.

Keep these tips in mind and you can really get a bargain online. For more deals check out www.dailysteals.com. Every day, you’ll find a cool new item at a ridiculously low price. If you’re into the hottest electronics and accessories at the lowest prices, you don’t want to miss a day at Daily Steals!

Beware of Online Auctions

on 1:04 PM

The great thing about a daily deal site is that you don't have go into a bidding war to get the item. If you want it, just buy it before we run out... that simple.

But online auctions can be a little different, and although some of them are great and exciting, some can be frauds. Did you know that 48% of all online fraud cases are connected to online auctions? Here are some tips to keep you safe

1. If it sounds too good to be true it probably is. At daily deal site we only sale you new products, you can research them online or go to your neighbor and look at theirs. However, with an online auction you may be bidding on something used. If the seller uses too good to be true words for a used item, be careful.

2. At Daily Steals if you buy we ship... we send you a email confirming shipment and give you your tracking numbers. However, with online auction sites the merchant may take your money and run leaving you stuck out with no money and no product.

3. Phony bidders can bid phony prices to try to make you pay more on an online auction page. At Daily Steals, what you see is what you get, and it’s always below the retail price.

4. Selling fake goods to online bidders is a huge problem online auction sites. At Daily Steals we guarantee authentic products, not copyrighted infringed music or stolen cell phones.

There are many more precautions you should take to be safe online including watching for ridiculous shipping cost or buying from imaginary auctions where the main purpose is to get your credit card numbers.

Daily Bargains Then and Now

on 4:30 PM

Back in the day, you had to work a heck of a lot harder to find a bargain. Imagine driving that horse-drawn carriage through the unpaved, snow-covered streets just to take advantage of that 50% off sale on Miracle Elixir. OK, so maybe you dont need to go that far back in time but theres still no denying how much the hunt for daily bargains has changed over the past two decades since the Internet became such an integral part of our lives.

Consider the following THENs and NOWs of Daily Bargains:

THEN: You had to get up early, rifle through the Sunday paper then hope against hope that the products you needed were on sale.

NOW: Saunter over to your PC or MAC at any time of the day and do a quick Google search for the exact product youre seeking. Then CHOOSE the site has the best price.THEN: Drive all the way across town to take advantage of a big sale, only to find the product you wanted is completely out of stock and that all the store has to offer you is a smile and a rain check.NOW: Online daily bargain hunting means youre always a few mouse clicks away from having the products you want shipped right to your door.

THEN: You walk into a department store or onto a showroom floor and youre immediately assaulted by pushy salespeople who are more concerned about their own commission than getting you the products you need. The potentially biased opinion you got was pretty much your only source of product information.

NOW: The game has shifted entirely in the favor of the educated daily bargain hunter. Now the web provides an endless source of customer reviews and professional opinion about every product imaginable. If the bargain hunter is willing to put in the time, they can find the products that best meet their needs, at the lowest price on record and do it all WITHOUT any aggressive sales tactics.

To find the greatest daily bargains on the web, visit www.dailysteals.com. Every day, youll find a cool new item at a ridiculously low price. If youre into the hottest electronics and accessories at the lowest prices, you dont want to miss a day at Daily Steals!

Online Coupon Tips and Tricks

on 12:29 PM

I know it has happened to you before! You go to your local grocery store and they turn down your online coupon. You wasted time and ink searching for the perfect deal and get shut down before you even get to your first item at the register. Don’t worry about it, this article explores how to you prevent this from happening to you and how to make sure you get to use your online coupons today.

  • If you get turned down and told you can't use you legitimate online manufacturer's coupon, don't back down. Most companies won't lose a customer over one dollar. One customer had legitimate online coupons and was told that she couldn't go through the line. She called the corporate office and asked them their policy on online coupons and actually gave the phone to the manager who had no choice but to give her the discount.
  • Go to the manufacturer’s website and make sure that the coupon is legitimate. Some manufacturers, like Lunds and Byerly's, make sure that they keep a fraudulent list of online coupons that you cannot use in their stores.
  • Look for reasonable coupons! Make sure that its 50 cents, one dollar, two dollars and not 15 dollars off. If it's too good to be true it probably is.
  • If the coupon looks "jacked up" it probably is a fake. Check out the wording, the spelling, the barcode, the date and ask yourself if it look authentic. If not, don't print it out; leave it where you found it.

And remember, to find the best deals online, visit www.dailysteals.com. Every day, you'll find a cool new item at a ridiculously low price. If you're into the hottest electronics and accessories at the lowest prices, you don't want to miss a day at Daily Steals!

How to save money with a deal a day

on 1:51 AM

Shopping online can be a money-saving experience – but you’ve got to be smart about it. Overspending on the Internet (even at a discount) is just going to leave your pocketbook drained and your closets filled with a bunch of stuff you don’t want.

To help avoid this situation, try limiting your online shopping to only the best deals and the top deal a day discount websites.

Have you tried a Deal a Day website today?

Deal a Day websites work like this: Every day, the site offers ONE and only ONE product for sale. This product could be a home accessory, a cool new electronic gadget or even be food or drink-related, but one thing is certain, the price for the item will be astoundingly low!

Thanks to purchasing overstocks on new or refurbished goods, these deal a day sites can offer limited quantities of this item at a tremendous savings. But there is an emphasis on limited quantities here – usually the site will only receive a handful of each item on that particular day.

Check in too late and it may be gone. Wait until tomorrow, and it will definitely be out of stock.
Shopping the deal a day sites is incredibly fun, and a good way to discipline yourself when it comes to online shopping. Just remember to stick to the one-item-per-day rule!

To find the greatest deals on the web, visit www.dailysteals.com. Every day, you’ll find a cool new item at a ridiculously low price. If you’re into the hottest electronics and accessories at the lowest prices, you don’t want to miss a day at Daily Steals!

What makes a great daily deals website?

on 1:00 PM

One of the fastest growing areas online is the daily deal website. The sites offer top brand name electronics and accessories at ridiculously low price. And because they generally offer only one product per day, these sites benefit those who stay alert for great deals, and are willing to visit every day in an effort to find the best prices.

Here are five elements that comprise a great daily deals website:

1. Price. A real daily deals website features prices that make you put down your coffee and reach for your credit card. We’re talking about the kinds of prices that it would be crazy to ignore!

2. No tricks or games. The great daily deals sites never try to mislead their customers by adding in special charges for shipping and handling or insurance. They also “tell it like it is” when it comes to what they’re selling. For example, if a product is refurbished or previously owned, they will never sell it as new.

3. Selection. Unlike a restaurant where a big menu usually means a drop in quality, great daily deals websites bring a wide variety of products to their customers…one day and one product at a time.

4. Daily updates. Most daily deals websites only sell one selected product per day, so it is imperative the site stays refreshed with new content. When a site does not update their deal on a daily basis, customers catch on quickly and stop visiting the web site.

5. Service. Finally, the websites that stay in business the longest are the ones that earn your trust and repeat business. This is achieved by shipping orders fast, and maintaining a helpful customer service department in case things go wrong.

To find the greatest deals on the web, visit www.dailysteals.com. Every day, you’ll find a cool new item at a ridiculously low price. If you’re into the hottest electronics and accessories at the lowest prices, you don’t want to miss a day at Daily Steals!

Five technologies that have made life easier and more fun

on 12:16 PM

If you love technology, this is truly a glorious time to be alive. The past several years have seen incredible advances in consumer electronics that have made our lives easier.

Here are five of the most significant products that, thanks to portability and affordable price points, have helped millions of people be more productive and have more fun!

1. TIVO – It is hard to imagine now, but just a few short years ago, we were fumbling with clunky VHS videotapes, wondering if we were taping over Shark Week 2002 or our wedding reception. The miracle of TIVO has changed all that. Now, with the click of a button we can record entire seasons of a show, plan our viewing weeks in advance, skip commercials, pause live TV and more! What a glorious time to be on the couch.

2. GPS – The fact that most cars now come equipped with tracking software once available only to NASA and the CIA is lost on those who take GPS technology for granted. However, those of us who haven’t got lost or stuck in traffic since we installed the device in the car know the true power of this groundbreaking consumer technology.

3. Smart Phones – Remember when you had to wait to get back home or to the office to check your email or surf the web? Smart Phones have made all that a thing of the past. Multi-taskers can now rejoice in the ability to stay connected wherever they go with amazing phones that do everything a computer can do – all while fitting nicely in the purse or pocket.

4. WiFi – Like Smart Phones, Wi-Fi technology has helped us throw off the shackles of our desktop computer and connect to the Internet from almost anywhere. Whether it is a coffee shop, airport or just another room in the house, WiFi has given us the power to take a laptop, grab a signal and do our business when and where it is most convenient.

5. Bluetooth – Talking into a hand-held cell phone can be inconvenient at best, and dangerous at worst. Bluetooth headsets finally allow phone users to enjoy crystal clear reception while driving, walking or just generally engaging in any activity where we need our hands free to do other things.

Five technologies we can’t believe are already extinct (or are about to be)

on 8:18 AM

With analog, rabbit-ear-based TV making an official exit in February of 2009, it seems like a good time to reminisce about several once-cutting-edge technologies and services that are being pushed out the door like yesterday’s news.

Behold, the five technologies and services that will soon be deader than Elvis:

1. The in-store DVD rental – It seems like only yesterday we couldn’t believe that there were no more VHS tapes down at Blockbuster. Now it looks like there won’t be a Blockbuster down at Blockbuster for much longer! Downloadable content is the wave of the future, and trekking down to the local video store is becoming a thing of the past.

2. The fax machine – Adobe Acrobat PDFs, electronic signatures, $59 scanners…they have all contributed to the demise of the tried and true fax machine.

3. The VCR – When “I’ll tape that show” has been replaced by “I’ll TIVO that show” in the common lexicon, you know it’s a changing of the guard. TIVO is the greatest things to happen to TV since Charlie’s Angels, and its digital storage system makes big fat VHS tapes a clunky icon of yesteryear. Somewhere, Betamax is laughing at VHS’ fate.

4. The pager and the pay-phone – Two classic devices. Two complete relics. Major phone companies have been yanking pay phones off the streets in record numbers over the past five years as more and more people have access to cell phones. Same deal with pagers. Cell phones have pretty much removed the need for this intermediate step in the wireless communication process.

5. The CD – Who doesn’t remember the first time they bought one of these shiny metallic wonders, popped it in their expensive new stereo and heard the crisp, hiss-and-skip free sounds of their favorite artists? Anyone over the age of 14, that’s who! The CD is slowing fading from sight as the rise of the iPod continues to lead us into the direct-download age of music. We will miss you CD – you will forever be used as a drink coaster in our hearts.

Tips for finding great deals online

on 1:00 AM

You have just found the plasma TV or Bluetooth headset of your dreams online. You’ve got your credit card and are ready to purchase. But wait. Is this the BEST possible deal you can find? And is there a catch here? The following tips will help you find great deals online and make the web shopping experience more enjoyable.

Tip #1: Do your homework

The only way to know if you’re getting a great deal is to research the product in question and learn about the retail price, and the price being offered across different web sites. Never make a purchase until you can see with your own eyes that the price is truly something to get excited about.

Tip #2: Read the fine print

Sometimes, if you see a deal that looks too good to be true, it probably is! Read the fine print on every offer and look for additional costs such as shipping and handling, warranties and taxes. The price may still turn out to be great, but at least you’ll know the whole story.

Tip #3: Understand what “refurbished” means

Many companies sell re-furbished products at significantly lower prices. Refurbished simply refers to products that have been re-crafted at the factory using new or used parts. Although refurbished products are not “out of the box new”, they are almost always tested and guaranteed just like new products. If you don’t mind the moniker, they can be a GREAT deal.

Tip #4: Only buy from trusted sites

The online world is like the Wild West – there are plenty of good guys out there, but some sketchy characters as well. When it comes to choosing an online site to buy from, look for security seals from companies such as Verisign, Go Daddy and other trusted companies. And don’t forget to ask your friends about their experiences with the site as well. Even in the Internet age, you can’t beat good old word of mouth.

To find the greatest deals on the web, visit www.dailysteals.com. Every day, you’ll find a cool new item at a ridiculously low price. If you’re into the hottest electronics and accessories at the lowest prices, you don’t want to miss a day at Daily Steals!

What is Daily Steals?

You're soaking in it! Daily Steals is an online bargain bin for electronics and other items. It's not a very deep bin, but we believe that it's better to offer one item at a great price than lots of items at lousy price. After all, we figure plenty of stores already have lots of overpriced items, so we do the opposite. There's a steal of a deal that we post every day. If you still can't figure out why we're called Daily Steals, we're not going to tell you.

Who runs Daily Steals?

Master Thief never had the notoriety of his brother, so he decided to open a small store selling discount electronics online. He has reformed from his life of crime, and promises that these goods are not stolen. He just wants to share that feeling of getting things for less than they're worth with the world. It's like stealing, only without the illegality and ten years in prison.

Where are you located?

Brooklyn, NY. You got a problem with that?

Why is there only one item?

Because you're covered in birdseed. Wait, no, that's why birds suddenly appear every time that you're near. There's only one item because Master Thief is very, very focused on offering you a good deal. Unfortunately, he can only focus on one item at a time. Seven years ago, we tried letting him sell two items at once, and he kept looking back and forth until he got whiplash.

Anyway, you don't need a bunch of confusing choices to worry about. We offer you one great deal, and you can either take it, or wait too long and hope the next one is as good. Besides, if you really want two items, you can buy two of the current one.

Can I actually steal the items?

And arouse the ire of Master Thief? You'd better think again. Master Thief has worked hard to give people good deals without any actual stealing any more, and if he won't let himself steal, he won't let you steal either. On the bright side, this means you can take advantage of his great deals without feeling that dark self-loathing and guilt you might otherwise have.

How do I contact you for customer service?

Before writing us, see if your question is answered on our FAQs page. If your question is about the product you received, you should try to contact the manufacturer instead. Master Thief knows nothing about these products, he only knows about good deals. Besides, any emails would break his focus on trying to find tomorrow's Steal for you. If you absolutely must ask a burning question, see our Contact Us page for more information.
